The Winter Event At Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver

Usually, Winter is a low wedding season in Vancouver because of the rain and cold weather. Lots of events hosted during the time. November and December are busy months for event photos. We will post some event photos in blog around these few weeks.

Facebook (FB) advertisement was the most popular topic back in the days we attended WPPI convention at Las Vegas almost every year. This world changes very fast when we found that almost zero new clients came FB page now. Instead, more and more clients messaged us from Instagram (IG). Other than blog, we will post more on IG side. If you use IG often, you can add us @raymonatorleung. Link is down below.

About camera stuff... Canon recycles their 5D Mark 4 sensor in its new mirrorless series EOS R and 6D Mark 2 sensor in EOS RP. At the same time, Canon pushes out a lot of huge high end RF lenses. We can see the trend of Canon but obviously next version of R and RP will have huge differences (after old sensors are cleared out from warehouse). It isn't a good timing for us to jump into Canon's mirrorless series now.

Kaylie's Family Session

It was always fun to shoot photo session with couples/families visiting Vancouver. This time, we almost missed the chance to capture Kaylie's family moment in Vancouver. The booking was supposed to be around Christmas time. However, Kaylie fell and hurt her back one day before the photo shoot. As everyone knew, Vancouver's famous unstable weather was a real problem to reschedule any outdoor photo session in Winter. We were very very lucky this time. Right before they returned to Hong Kong, we had a nice sunny day (but it was very cold). Thanks God!

Vancouver Wedding Industry Brunch 2018

Merry Christmas! First of all, I had to thank for the vendors who made this event happened. It wasn't an easy job for CC Roa to organize it. At the same time, all vendors were very busy but they still spent tremendous efforts in this event. (My photography part was relatively easy)

  • LIFE Studios Inc. for Videography
  • Raymond and Jessie Photography
  • Koncept Events for the Gold Chairs
  • Stephanie and Eric of Box Not Box for the City Skyline design.
  • Gold Fish Media and Photobooth Rentals
  • Debut Event Design for the Pipe and Draping of Stage
  • Balconi Floral Design Studios for 3 Floral bouquet gifts.
  • La Glace Ice Cream for the yummy treats and ice cream
  • Fusion DJ for the cool groove music.
  • Flower Factory for the 3 centrepieces in the Reading Room.
  • Making Memories by Stationary for graphic designs and specialty papery designs.
  • Niche Events Stylists for the 100 Single Rose Gifts
  • Thanks Chef Ned Bell for the culinary tailored menu for this event.
  • Katie Briscoe, Vancouver Club’s Director of Catering, for allowing us to hold this annual holiday get together for our Industry family.
  • Warren Dean Flandez and Crew- for the awesome live entertainment.
  • Last, CC for planning and Team ROA, Jamie, Scott, Lucy, Alena, Cecilia, Lovely, Darian, Olaf, Justin, Sarah, Bruce, for their floral and event designs magic.
Other than good food, gifts, photo booth and music, this year's Vancouver Wedding Industry Brunch had great performance. Mr. & Mrs. Santa visited us and brought us some presents. I hope we can do this again next year.

*Because of some rush jobs and family party preparation for Christmas Day, I'm super busy this week but I finally post the brunch photos before Christmas. Thanks God!

See you next year!

Huawei Mate 20 Pro vs Olympus OM-D E-M1: The Travel Cameras

Jessie just got her new Huawei Mate 20 Pro cell phone. It had many interesting camera features such as the crazy night mode and 16mm ultra wide angle lens. Tonight (Day 2), we went to play with the phone at Olympus Oval. At the same time, We brought our travel camera Olympus OM-D E-M1 (with Viltrox EF-M2 0.71x AF + Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6) instead of Canon 5D Mark III as fair comparison.

*Jessie didn't choose 40 mega pixel mode but 10 mega pixel mode by mistake*
*E-M1 photos processed by Adobe Lightroom 6.14 (by Raymond)*
*Mate 20 Pro photos processed by Adobe PhotoShop Express Android version (by Jessie)*

E-M1 (m4/3 system) didn't have good ISO performance was a fact. However, its IBIS was a great thing for travel photography. We could take sharp photos at 1/3s shutter at most of the time. Tonight, we used ISO800-1600 + f/2.8 and hand-held in the low light environment.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro's Night Mode operation was like... Press the shutter and hold it for about 3 to 4 seconds. Of course, the photos were not professional-like quality but they are 80-90% quality of E-M1's (even at 10mp) on screen. Mate 20 Pro's photos were totally usable for leisure.

Surely, Mate 20 Pro has the ability to take much better photos (than this day 2 photos) after we understand more about its camera feature. We will show you more when we can get the most out of it.
